Pursue What Makes For Peace” – Romans 14:19
19. Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.
Many things are not wrong in themselves, but may offend others.  It should not be our intention to offend anyone for the sake of offending.  Some are offended by the gospel, but that should not be our intention for teaching.  Some are offended out of ignorance and may be taught, if their heart is receptive to the truth.  Some are offended out of malice and hatred.  Professional protester and rioters are paid to be offended.  They could care less what they are opposed to.  They are doing it for money.  Christians should try to be at peace.
Romans 12: 17 – 18 Paul writes to be at peace.
17.  Recompense to no man evil for evil.  Provide things honest in the sight of all men.  18.  If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
If it be possible some people will not let peace be and we may need to avoid them.  This may be the only way to be at peace with them.  We should desire peace.
To be at peace with God we must accept His authority, the Word.
Hebrews 11: 6 God requires faith in Him.
6.  But without faith it is impossible to please Him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.
To be at peace with God we must have faith.
Romans 10: 16 -17 Paul talk the Romans they could not believe in someone they had not heard of.
16.  But they have not all obeyed the gospel.  For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?  17.  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Faith is not inherited or passed on, but must come by individuals hearing and believing the Word of God and obeying.
John 12: 47- 48 We are not to judge one another.
47.  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not; for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. 48.  He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him; the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
The Word of God judges all men.
2 Timothy 3: 16 -17  The Word can guide us because it is inspired of God.
16. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; 17.  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
We are not to judge one another because we are striving to be a peace through Gods’ Word.
We should be eager to maintain unity in peace.
Ephesians 4: 2- 3  We must work at being at peace.
2. With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3. Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Endeavoring in the ASV is “eager to maintain”  We must do more than try to be a peace, we must do it eagerly.
Ephesians 4: 13 – 16  How long do we have to endure peace?
13. Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14. that we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the slight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15. but speaking in love, may grow up into him all things, which is the head, even Christ. 16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
We are to continue in peace.  Striving for peace, edifying itself in love.  If we strive for peace we will grow up in Christ and be a part of the whole body, the church.  Mature faithful Christians do not fight among themselves, but fight together to battle Satan.
Demonstrate an unselfish spirit.
Genesis 13: 5 – 9 There was strife between Abram’s herdsmen and Lot’s herdsmen.
5. And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.  6.  And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together; for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together. 7. And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdsmen of Lot’s cattle; and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land. 8. And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdsmen and they herdsmen; for we be brethren. 9. Is is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.
God blessed Abram abundantly above all for his love and peace shown unto Lot. Lot was Abram’s brother’s son.  He had no obligation to give him anything.  He loved Lot and showed his love.
Philippians 2: 3 – 5  Let us not just look at the good for self, but others also.
3. Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.  4. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.
Jesus was the Son of God.  He came down to this earth to live and die for our sins.  What if Jesus did not want to be our friend? What if he did not allow us to have peace with Him?  We could not make it without the God’s grace, given freely to all who will believe and obey Him.
Matthew 7: 12 Jesus tells it as it should be.
12. Therefore all things whosoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
How simple it is.  What are striving to do in your life?  Pursue self above all else?  Make a fortune for yourself?  Are you striving to please and glorify God?  Are you striving to obey God above all else?  Are you striving to make peace?  God wants you to obey Him by striving to make peace will all.. Who do you serve, God or self?
